Extinction threat in the Pedilanthus clade (Euphorbia, Euphorbiaceae), with special reference to the recently rediscovered E. conzattii (P. pulchellus).

The type locality of the slipper spurge Euphorbia conzattii has been in doubt because the 1917 type is a mixed collection with vague label data. In recent field work, the species was found on Cerro Espino, Pochutla District, Oaxaca, Mexico. We used the Method for Evaluation of Risk of Extinction for Mexican Wild Species (MER), required to protect a species under Mexican law, to assess the conse...

A Revision of the Euphorbia Dioscoreoides Complex (Euphorbiaceae)

A revision of the Euphorbia dioscoreoides complex (subgenus Agaloma) is provided. Euphorbia dioscoreoides ssp. attenuata and E. eglandulosa, both from Mexico, are proposed as new; E. digitata is reduced to synonymy under E. subpeltata. Representative specimens are cited, and distributional and ecological data are provided.

Isolation and characterization of microsatellite loci for Euphorbia palustris (Euphorbiaceae).

Swamp spurge (Euphorbia palustris, Euphorbiaceae) is a large perennial species of wet grassland and swamps. Its natural habitats are fragmented and isolated both naturally and owing to habitat destruction by human activity. Thus the species is endangered and legally protected in Germany. This report describes seven novel polymorphic microsatellite loci that will be helpful to characterize genet...

Spirowallichiione: a rearranged multiflorane from Euphorbia wallichii Hook F. (Euphorbiaceae).

Euphorbia wallichii of the family Euphorbiaceae yielded a new rearranged pentacyclic triterpene of the multiflorane class which we have named spirowallichiione. The structure of this natural spirocompound was elucidated with the aid of modern spectroscopic techniques, including 2D-NMR.

Evolutionary bursts in Euphorbia (Euphorbiaceae) are linked with photosynthetic pathway.

The mid-Cenozoic decline of atmospheric CO2 levels that promoted global climate change was critical to shaping contemporary arid ecosystems. Within angiosperms, two CO2 -concentrating mechanisms (CCMs)-crassulacean acid metabolism (CAM) and C4 -evolved from the C3 photosynthetic pathway, enabling more efficient whole-plant function in such environments. Many angiosperm clades with CCMs are thou...
